Our history
When Surrey LINK (the predecessor of Healthwatch Surrey) came into being as the local NHS watchdog in 2005, they supported a mental health group chaired by Don Illman. When Healthwatch Surrey started in 2013, they no longer wanted to have ongoing groups so Surrey Coalition of Disabled People decided to provide support for a Surrey-wide mental health group to keep the good work of the previous LINK group going.
In 2016 the NHS and adult social care commissioners decided that they wanted to fund an Independent Mental Health Network to enable people with experience of mental health and carers to influence the commissioning of future services. Surrey Coalition was awarded a grant from April 2016 to support the setting up of a new IMHN covering Surrey and North East Hampshire.
The Network is now being chaired by David Muir.
